About The Film
Seeking refuge from the pressures as a classically trained musician, a young, secular Israeli woman confronts dangerous religious fanaticism, in A QUIET HEART. Ania Bukstein gives a mesmerizing, austere performance as Naomi, a pianist being groomed for a world-class career. Facing crushing expectations from her parents and colleagues, she escapes her native Tel Aviv for the anonymity and solitude of Jerusalem, to reassess her priorities. But her hesitant friendships with a handsome Italian monk (Giorgio Lupano), and a mute but musically gifted boy, make Naomi a target of her hardline ultra-Orthodox neighbors. Amid escalating isolation and threats of violence, Naomi uses music to overcome towering religious barriers and hate. This thoughtful, quietly gripping snapshot of Israeli social conflict is a Best Screenplay winner at the Haifa International Film Festival.
