What's in a Name?
About The Film
A shocking baby naming announcement scandalizes a Parisian dinner party among friends in the stage-to-screen comedy WHAT’S IN A NAME?, a Gallic box office smash hit (even selling more tickets in France than The Avengers).
A lively, tongue-in-cheek opening montage introduces the superb ensemble: the snobbish soirée host Pierre (Charles Berling); his schoolteacher wife Élisabeth (Valérie Benguigui); her childhood friend Claude (Guillaume De Tonquedec); Élisabeth’s suave real estate agent brother Vincent (Patrick Bruel); and his pregnant – and perpetually late – wife Anna (Judith El Zein). Initial small talk dissolves into disaster when Vincent reveals the jaw-dropping moniker he and Anna have chosen for their firstborn son (a surprise best discovered onscreen), setting in motion a cascade of hilarious histrionics and rapid-fire revelations.
Brilliant comic timing by the well-rehearsed cast (most of them reprising their original stage roles), as well as the deft choreography of filmmakers Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patellière, squeeze every zinger for maximum laughs.
