Otto Frank, Father of Anne

About The Film

Illuminating the inside story of the world’s most famous diary, OTTO FRANK, FATHER OF ANNE is a richly detailed, often surprising portrait of the man who dedicated his life to preserving and protecting his daughter’s memories. The only member of his family to survive the Holocaust, Otto Frank worked tirelessly to ensure The Diary of Anne Frank would endure as one of the 20th century’s singular literary testaments. Filmmaker David de Jongh does not shy away from the dilemmas and controversies stemming from a father’s obsession, including questions surrounding editorial changes to the manuscript, as well as dubious artistic compromises made for the Broadway and Hollywood adaptations. OTTO FRANK, FATHER OF ANNE draws upon a wealth of archival footage and interviews with friends, survivors, historians and critics to fashion a sympathetic but complex portrait of a man driven by pride and grief.
