Blinky & Me
About The Film
A pioneering Aussie children’s animator serves as storyteller of his own inspirational journey from overcoming adversity to artistic success in BLINKY & ME.
Owing his survival to his creative abilities at every turn, Yoram Gross recounts his escape from the Kraków Ghetto during WWII, the launch of an award-winning film career in Israel, and his ultimate migration to Australia. There, he created his signature cartoon character and popular animated TV series, the adventurous koala Blinky Bill (considered the Mickey Mouse of Australia), which the film effectively juxtaposes against his wartime experiences, demonstrating the extent to which these hardships informed his art. Accompanied by his adoring teenage grandchildren who hang on his every word, Gross travels back to his native Poland while recalling with warmth, humor and youthful enthusiasm his saga of displacement.
Imaginatively incorporating the animator’s original artwork with archival photos, newsreel footage, and a sentimental score by son Guy Gross, BLINKY & ME stands as a loving rebuke to the destructive forces of war.
