Undressing Israel: Gay Men in the Promised Land

About the Film:

Israel’s thriving and pioneering gay community is extoled in this documentary featurette that examines a side of the Jewish State that is often overlooked.

In a region where homosexuality is often illegal and even punishable by death, LGBT rights in Israel are considered the most progressive in the Middle East. Crisscrossing the country in an engaging guided tour of gay equality and integration, the film introduces a diverse range of men, including a gay member of Israel’s parliament, a trainer who served openly in the army, a young Arab-Israeli journalist, and a pair of dads raising their kids in a loving home. Other stops include a heartwarming same-sex marriage ceremony and Tel Aviv’s wild nightlife scene.

UNDRESSING ISRAEL: GAY MEN IN THE PROMISED LAND is hosted and produced by gay adult film star and entrepreneur Michael Lucas, a Russian-born American-Israeli who has established himself as a respected advocate for a host of social issues facing the LGBT community and beyond.

The Invisible Men

About the Film:

A heartrending portrait of persecution and discrimination, THE INVISIBLE MEN profiles imperiled gay Palestinians who flee to Israel in hopes of one day freely expressing their sexual and national identity.

Living secretly and illegally in culturally liberal Tel Aviv, these outed homosexuals are ostracized by their own Arab communities and families, even threatened with death if they were to return home. Over the span of three years, the film follows 32-year-old Louie who lives a suffocating existence taking odd jobs while dodging Israeli police; 24-year-old Abdu of Ramallah, who was tortured by Palestinian security services; and 23-year-old Faris who was almost killed by his own West Bank family because of his sexual orientation. While Israel prohibits any kind of refuge due to security measures, a group of lawyers at a Tel Aviv University legal clinic helps these outcasts seek asylum in Europe, leaving their homelands forever.
